It Just Got Personal

THE WHY

It started with making things personal. Then life got personal.

It Just Got Personal® began with a simple idea: create something that feels like it was made specifically for you.

For years, that meant personalized apparel, gifts and accessories created around the people, moments and stories my customers brought to me — birthdays, family celebrations, businesses, causes, accomplishments, losses and even the inside jokes that mean nothing to everyone else and everything to the people who share them.

I thought I was in the business of personalization.

I was.

I just didn't yet understand how much bigger that word would become.

The Meaning of Personal Changed

As my own life entered a season of profound change, I found myself asking questions about identity, purpose, faith and what remains when some of the things you thought would always define your life no longer do.

I began with a very personal question:

Who am I?

Eventually, that question followed me into my business.

Who is It Just Got Personal?

Not What do I sell? or What should I make next? But why does this business exist? What connects what I've already created with everything I still feel called to create?

The more clearly I began to see myself, the more clearly I began to see It Just Got Personal.

The name hadn't changed. The meaning had matured.

The Person Was the Point All Along

Looking back over years of creating for people, something became clear:

The product was never the whole story.

There was always a person attached to it.

Someone chose the gift because somebody mattered. Someone came to IJGP with a person on their mind and something in their heart they wanted to express. Sometimes they knew exactly what they wanted to say. Sometimes they simply knew they wanted someone to feel celebrated, encouraged, remembered, loved or seen.

There was a story behind the person receiving it — and there was intention behind the person giving it.

The item is what we see.

The story is what gives it meaning.

And somewhere along the way, personalization began growing into something deeper:

Consideration.

Consideration Is How We Create

At IJGP, consideration means paying enough attention to think beyond the product and toward the people who will experience it.

Sometimes that's the person receiving what we create.

And sometimes it's the person searching for a way to say, “I thought about you.”

What might they be carrying? What might they be celebrating? What might they need to remember? What could make them laugh? What might help them feel seen?

And for the person doing the considering:

How can we help you express what is already in your heart?

Those questions are shaping what IJGP creates and how we create it.

Today, It Just Got Personal continues to offer personalized products while growing into thoughtfully designed apparel, gifts, experiences and initiatives rooted in consideration, story, connection and purpose.

Because I don't believe the world simply needs more stuff.

I believe what we create should have a reason for taking up space in someone's life.

A phrase can start a conversation. A gift can say I thought about you. A product can carry a reminder that finds you when you need it. A shirt can tell a story without telling the whole story.

And sometimes, what we create simply helps one person say to another what was already in their heart.

That's the kind of company I am building:

Considered, not merely decorated.

The WHY Beneath the Work

My Christian faith is not simply something I bring with me while building It Just Got Personal. It is the foundation beneath why I am building it at all.

The prayer at the center of the larger vision comes from Matthew 6:10:

“Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.”

As my understanding of IJGP's identity has deepened, so has the question I bring to the way it grows:

What could a business look like if it were built according to Kingdom principles rather than simply inheriting the world's definition of how business has always been done?

I don't have every answer to that question yet.

But I believe it is worth asking.

It means being willing to reconsider assumptions about what we create, how we serve, how we treat people, how we steward resources, how we define success and, eventually, how we build a workplace and participate in our communities.

Not different simply for the sake of being different.

Considered enough to ask whether there might be a better way.

My faith informs why I build.

Consideration informs how I build.

And you don't have to share my faith or my story to be considered here.

You already are.

Still Becoming

It Just Got Personal hasn't arrived.

We're still becoming.

New collections are being developed. New experiences are taking shape. New ways of serving are being explored. And I'm continuing to discover what it looks like to build a profitable, sustainable company where consideration influences not only what we create, but how we work, partner, serve and participate in our communities.

I don't know what every piece will look like yet.

I've learned I don't have to.

The vision has revealed itself much like a puzzle — one piece at a time.

My responsibility is to remain faithful enough to recognize the next piece when it appears.

Meet the Founder

I'm Carla, founder of It Just Got Personal®.

I'm a creator, entrepreneur, writer and woman of faith who has learned that some of life's greatest transformations begin with questions we never expected to have to ask.

Mine eventually brought me back to something I had named years before I fully understood it:

It Just Got Personal.

What began as a personalization business is becoming a reflection of something I now believe deeply:

When we slow down long enough to consider the person, what we create, give, say and do can carry far greater meaning.

That's the company I'm building.

Not because I have every answer.

But because I've learned to pay attention, remain open to what God reveals and be willing to reconsider what we've accepted simply because it's always been done that way.

Perhaps that's where consideration begins.

Thank you for allowing It Just Got Personal® to become a small part of your story.
